If you live and work in a place where you don't have unlimited data, Windows 10 is problematic. It is always downloading massive updating in the background. Even worse it downloads the same updates for each computer on the network, eating up even more bandwidth.
But there is a solution. First, make sure all of your Windows 10 computers are set to share updates with other computers on the network. I believe the current versions of Windows 10 have this turned on by default, but you should definitely go verify for each.
Second—and most importantly—tell Windows that you are on a metered connection. This will prevent the computer from downloading updates from the internet, and instead they will look for the updates only on the local network.
Someone really needs to create a router/gateway that will itself download the updates and then serve them to the computers on the network behind it. If something like that exists, please leave a comment. Thanks!
