I've been working as a one-person IT “department” at a small non-profit for nearly 3 years. My computer science degree and experience working as a product designer / manager in Silicon Valley has certainly helped, but there was also a lot I had to learn on the spot through research and trial and error.
I know that many non-profits cannot afford a dedicated IT person, or if they have one they—like me—might not have formal experience working IT at a larger or for-profit organization. Thus I'm documenting some of my learnings and experiences on a new blog Info Tech for Non-Profits (IT4NP). It should be informative for people both in and outside the non-profit world. And even for those who are just people whose lives are increasingly influenced by technology. Check it out, share with others, and let me know what you think. Thanks!
